This Beetle's appearance belies its mechanical condition.  Owned by Victor Vella, this bug is powered by a Type 4 1700cc engine, shoe-horned into the original engine bay by Victor himself.  On the day, Victor had just installed a quick shift gear leaver which had yet to live up to its name.  Nonetheless, he managed a respectable second place, astounding both the Mini and Peugeot timekeepers present.
